Sama Dilaut

The Sama Dilaut, are an Indigenous group from Tawi-Tawi and Sitangkai in the southern Philippines.

Traditionally, they are sea-faring people, skilled in fishing, boat-building, and navigation. Their cultural practices include rituals related to the sea and spirits, as well as vibrant celebrations of harvest and marriage. Traditional attire includes brightly colored garments such as sawwal or fisherman's pants. Dances such as Igal Linggisan and Titik Tabawan reflect their maritime lifestyle. Historically, they have faced displacement, but the Sama Dilaut continue to uphold their rich cultural heritage.
