Sama Dilaut
The Sama Dilaut, are an Indigenous group the Sulu archipelago, Sitangkai in the southern Philippines.
Their traditional way of life relies on the sea, living in homes above the eel grass beds and shallow waters of the ocean. Skilled in fishing, boat-building, and navigation. Their cultural practices include rituals related to the sea and spirits, as well as vibrant celebrations of harvest and marriage. Traditional attire includes items such as the brightly colored garment, the sawwal or fisherman's pants. Dances such as Igal Linggisan and Titik Tabawan reflect their maritime lifestyle. Historically, they have faced displacement & discrimination, but the Sama Dilaut continue to uphold their rich cultural heritage.
