Ilokano

The Ilokano people, native to the Ilocos region of the Philippines, have a rich history of agriculture, especially rice and tobacco farming.

Pre-colonial traditions include animistic rituals honoring spirits, communal bayanihan, and respect for ancestral lands. Their traditional dances, like Dinaklisan and Binatbatan (rice threshing dance), reflect their agricultural lifestyle. Ilokano craftsmanship, including weaving and pottery, is also significant. Despite Spanish colonization, the Ilokano maintained their cultural practices, language, and deep connection to the land, preserving many pre-colonial traditions alongside adopted influences.
